At 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 16, the Legislative Services Agency (LSA) delivered its first Proposed Redistricting Plan Report, including the first set of maps, to the legislature.
Proposed Statewide Legislative & Congressional District Maps
The maps are now available for the public to view in several formats on the Iowa Redistricting webpage. There is also an interactive tool to navigate the redistricting maps.
Public Comments
The First Redistricting Plan is available in its entirety, as well as the Proposed Redistricting Plan Bill. The Temporary Redistricting Commission (TRAC) will solicit public comments on the first proposed redistricting plan by conducting three virtual public redistricting hearings:
- Monday, September 20: 7:00 – 10:00 p.m.
- Tuesday, September 21: 12:00 – 3:00 p.m.
- Wednesday, September 22: 6:00 – 9:00 p.m.
Signups to attend the virtual public hearings, submit public comments, and view the signups and public comments on the plan are live on the Public Hearings webpage on the Iowa General Assembly website (and utilizing the links above).
Special Legislative Session
The Iowa legislature will convene on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 in a special legislative session to vote on the first redistricting plan. House Speaker Pat Grassley, R-New Hartford, promised that Republicans, who hold majorities in the Iowa House and Senate, will “do our due diligence” and carefully review the proposal.
“Our nonpartisan redistricting process in Iowa is considered one of the fairest in the nation,” Speaker Grassley said in a statement. “After months of delays, we now have a proposed set of maps for redistricting in front of the Iowa Legislature. We will do our due diligence and review it thoroughly to ensure it is a fair set of maps for the people of Iowa.”
