Worried about surge, state may impose ‘targeted mitigation’ in southwestern counties

The state Department of Health appears to be preparing to impose “targeted mitigation” on at least one of five counties in southwestern Pennsylvania that are seeing surges in new COVID-19 cases in recent weeks.

Washington County Commissioner Diana Irey Vaughan said that during a 15-minute call Tuesday afternoon with state Health Secretary Dr. Rachel Levine, the secretary warned the commissioners the state would announce “targeted mitigation” in the county on Wednesday, possibly aimed at restaurants and bars to which most of the new cases are linked.
