The battlefield is taking shape for majority control of Pennsylvania’s legislature in the 2023-24 session, and so far Republicans are starting with some baked-in leads in both chambers.
Based on candidates who filed for the May 17 primary elections by Monday’s deadline – and barring the odd write-in campaign – Republicans have a clear path with no Democratic opposition to 59 seats in the 203-seat House of Representatives, as compared to just 39 seats where Democratic candidates aren’t facing any GOP opponents.
