State push for road-funding reform remains focused on tolling some bridges

Pennsylvania continues to move ahead on parallel paths as it attempts to overhaul how it funds road and bridge projects.

But the primary emphasis remains on the controversial plan to add tolls to nine interstate bridges to fund reconstruction.

The group Gov. Tom Wolf appointed in March, the Transportation Revenue Options Commission, held its third meeting Thursday as it looks for ways to cover a shortfall of more than $8 billion a year in road funding. And the state Department of Transportation released a 134-page draft document Thursday through its Pathways alternative funding program making the case for new funding strategies, including proposed tolls on the I-79 at Bridgeville.
